Why So Passionate? The Story of TLIC Media
How Wedding Videography Stole My Heart.
When I look back and reflect on my life I well up with gratitude. The journey could have gone many ways but I was able to find a career that I am passionate about. TLIC Media to me is not just a company. It is the fullness of my heart and joy being expressed. I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.
The art of photography and videography has captivated me ever since I was young. I found myself buying my first camera at age 11. Although it was a simple Nikon Coolpix, it was a start. I loved to take pictures and videos of my life events. I figured that one day my kids and their kids would enjoy watching. I never dreamed that it would one day become my career.
I found that I was good with people. I moved into the retail space and began my career as a manager. This took me to store management for a craft and fabric chain called Joann's. One day in the middle of spring I was in my store making sure that the inventory was in check. As if I got hit upside the head I realized that this was not the path for me.
Compelled by faith, I sold the majority of my possessions and left Joann to become a missionary. I felt enamored by the weightlessness and reward of missions as well as the uncanny events that I saw. It compelled me to buy my first professional camera. I saw my passion for photo and video as an opportunity to raise awareness of the many challenges outside of the US.
Months later, one of my close friends was getting married. I came back from Kenya to be a part of it. I asked about filming their wedding and even though they had a videographer already, they were willing to let me. To this day it might have been the most rewarding wedding I have ever worked. The joy of being with the couple, seeing their nerves, seeing their love. It filled me with such a sense of belonging. I knew I found something special.
Because of this feeling (plus being a little low on money), I decided I would advertise the video I made for them. Within 3 weeks I talked with and booked 4 couples for their wedding. That year I ended up working 22 weddings. I knew I found my career.
A New Journey.
Since then, I am honored to have worked with over 90 brides and grooms across the US. I grew from humble, one camera beginnings to a full-scale multi-camera wedding crew.
I attribute my success first to God. His nudge was what compelled me to leave my past career to discover this hidden passion. My dedication to make the company honorable before God is what sets TLIC apart. Also, I have to give credit to the support of every team member. They always put the couple first. Daily they commit to find new and unique ways to make the TLIC experience better. It makes me thankful.
Our mission is to create a stress-free wedding experience. To allow the couple, their families, and the celebration to take center stage. My timeless style of filming and editing has received rave reviews from the couples that we’ve served.
One of our services is to show the couple their video for the first time and film their reaction. The most rewarding part of being a wedding videographer is priceless moments. Smiles laughs, and tears I get to see after delivering the final cut. I remember the first-ever video premiere I did. I presented a couple their wedding film at their family’s Christmas party. Being the first time I was showcasing a wedding highlight, I was nervous.
Half the guests cried out with the delight. The other half-stunned silent with exception to the occasional "wow". When the video ended the group started chanting my companies name. It was tough to choke back the tears of joy I had at that moment. Take a look at their reactions.
Just For Fun.
Although it's my main passion, I am not always crafting captivating wedding videos. You can find me cooking, hiking, playing rugby, racketball, anything with a ball. There are very few things that I am unwilling to try. Most recently, I’ve been having a ton of fun woodworking and building a new room in my house.
I’m also passionate about supporting others to succeed, especially the youth. I coached basketball, taught classes, tutored, and I’m the youth director of my church’s school program. If there is an opportunity for me to pass wisdom along, I will always take the chance!
I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
